Finger control is defined at the age of 9 to 12 months old. We start developing this with some tearing, scrunching, squeezing, coloring, filling color with chalk crayon paints. Todays nursery class is painting in the lines holding flat and round brushes, navigating paint consistency, balancing standing on a chair or table, then choosing their color and stretching up to fill the leaves flowers and butterflies and sky. This is definitely co ordinating a lot of things and yes being outdoors all this makes my street artists of Nursery 4 an admirable lot.
Here we are doing, not just teaching and growing on many levels. Just before this activity we had played football and had snack so we were mentally wired up in a Mindspace that sits well with creativity.
Learning through ART is definitely a Sunflower philosophy.
